Story / Description
“Barbie” (2023) is a colorful and emotionally engaging fantasy adventure that follows the journey of Stereotypical Barbie, who lives in the bright and perfect world of Barbie Land. This world is flawless, cheerful, and filled with confidence, where Barbies run everything—from the government to daily society—leading a life of beauty and happiness. Kens exist mainly to gain Barbie’s attention, but their role in society is minimal. Everything in Barbie’s life goes perfectly until she suddenly experiences unexpected changes. Her feet turn flat, she begins thinking about death, and she starts feeling emotions that no Barbie has felt before. These strange changes lead her to discover that a human in the real world, who is emotionally troubled, is directly connected to her.
To solve this mystery, Barbie travels to the real world, where she discovers that life is much more complicated than she ever imagined. She learns about human challenges, insecurities, responsibilities, and the pressures of society. Meanwhile, Ken becomes fascinated with the real world’s idea of patriarchy and brings it back to Barbie Land, transforming it into “Kendom,” where Kens begin to dominate, and Barbies lose their confidence.
Barbie teams up with Gloria and Sasha to bring back balance and equality. Through emotional struggles and self-realization, Barbie learns what it truly means to be human. She discovers that perfection is not real, emotions make life meaningful, and identity comes from within. In the end, Barbie chooses to live as a real human named “Barbara,” embracing freedom, feelings, and her true self.
